John I. Wilson Scholarship Program - for TA/ESP

Statement of Purpose and Qualification

The scholarship is named for John I. Wilson who worked as a classroom teacher for 21 years including ten years at Daniels Middle School from 1982-92. Throughout the years, he has served in several leadership positions in the association including President of Wake ACT, NCAE President, NEA Executive Committee, Director of Government Relations for NCAE, Executive Director of NCAE, and presently serves as Executive Director of NEA. He has been the major catalyst for salary and benefits for the teaching profession in North Carolina for the last thirty years.

This scholarship will be awarded in February

Criteria for selection of John I. Wilson Scholarship awards:

  1. The applicant must be a Wake NCAE/NCAE/NEA member in good standing as of November 1, 2011.
  2. The applicant must be actively pursuing a degree in teacher education.
  3. Demonstration of interest in education by membership in one of the areas below.
    • Future Teachers, Work experience with children in some capacity
  4. Finalists may be interviewed to determine the winner.

THE FOLLOWING FORMS AND INFORMATION MUST BE RETURNED TO THE WAKE NCAE OFFICE at 3900 MERTON DRIVE, SUITE 100, RALEIGH, NC 27609, BY DECEMBER 16, 2011 AT 6 PM.

  1. Proof of membership by applicant.
  2. Transcript demonstating participation in a university program
  3. One letter of recommendation from a teacher.
  4. One letter of recommendation from a person in the community.
  5. Writing portion completed by applicant.
  6. Resume including work history, honors or awards, involvement in school and community programs, and volunteer activities.
