NCAE Instructional & Professional Development Commission Awards

Terry Sanford Award for Creativity and Innovation:

The Terry Sanford Award for Creativity and Innovation in Teaching recognizes the first education governor of NC. Recipients create classrooms that are known for innovation and inspire the creativity of both students and educators. Academic risk taking is promoted along with high academic standards. Recipients are recognized with an award, a cash prize, and featured in NCAE publications and promotions.

Applications Due: January 31st, 2018

Linda Rader Professional Development Award

Linda Rader, past NCAE president and Gaston County educator, believed in the importance of professional developments for all educators. She endowed NCAE with an award to support professional learning opportunities for certified and classified members. Certified members receive a $3,000 award to support professional learning both in and outside of the United States. Classified members receive #1,500 to support continued education.

Kay Trull Distinguished Educator Award

Haywood County native Kay Trull was a life long advocate for strong public schools and a member of NCAE. Members who have taught for at least 10 years, model best practices, and promote student success are encourage to apply. Recipients are recognized for their work and its impact within the larger educational community through political and social involvement. Recipients receive an award and a cash prize as well as being featured in NCAE publications and promotions.

The NEA Foundation Awards for Teaching Excellence

The NEA Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence recognizes, rewards, and promotes excellence in teaching and advocacy for the profession. They also honor public education and dedicated members of the NEA. The awards are presented jointly by the NEA Foundation and NEA with support from NEA Member Benefits and the Horace Mann Companies.
